Field Guide to Seaweeds of Alaska

Mandy Lindeberg
Sandra Lindstrom
The first and only Alaska seaweed field guide, this book is
essential for quick, accurate identification of seaweeds in Alaska,
for beachcombers, naturalists, teachers, students, scientists, and
coastal monitors. More than 100 of the most common seaweed species
in Alaska’s waters, as well as seagrasses and marine lichens,
are fully described and illustrated with color photos on
water-resistant paper. Mandy Lindeberg has studied seaweeds since
1990 as a research biologist for the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration. In 2006, she discovered a new genus of
kelp, golden V (on the front cover), in the Aleutian Islands. Sandra
Lindstrom has been a professional phycologist since 1975, and has
authored many research papers and books on algae.
What people say

They provide understandable accounts of the green, brown, and red algae. This book will be of great usefulness for anyone with a desire to know about the marine algae of the Alaska coastline, from the serious scientist and conservation-minded observer to the more casual visitor and beachcomber. The authors have used their decades of field experience to share their knowledge and appreciation of Alaska seaweeds with the public at large.”—Dr. Michael Wynne, Professor Emeritus of Botany, Curator Emeritus of Algae, University of Michigan
"Field Guide to Seaweeds of Alaska, by Mandy R. Lindeberg and Sandra C. Lindstrom, is an outstanding contribution in the genre of field guides. The pictures are both beautiful and scientifically informative.
